![]() ![]() ![]() if it were me, i would try to map a route through Sante Fe, just because i love the art & restaurants there around the main square.then find a way to get to Durango, CO and north from there - VERY scenic routes at this point because you're in the heart of the Rockies. I-25 going north in Colorado has it's moments, but for the most part it is just an easy way to go.maybe not the most scenic, but you do have the Rockies to your left and grassy rolling hills to the right. however, the stretch from Dalhart, TX (north of Lubbock) to Raton, NM is very scenic in my opinion with rolling hills, mini-mountains in the distance, etc., and Raton is where you cross a major mountain pass in to Colorado. This route will bring you through miles of scrub bushes and Mesquite trees. The other option (the Texas north option) is to map out some back roads going through San Angelo or Abilene up through Lubbock and Amarillo. I-25 going north from El Paso into NM has some very scenic areas like at "Truth or Consequences" where it parallels the Rio Grande River. Stockton where there are stretches of absolutely nothing but flat dirt like I said.
